About the Author
Christa Abbott has been a private test prep tutor for more than a decade, helping her students gain admission to some of the top independent schools in the country. She has now used that experience to develop materials that help students prepare for independent school admissions tests. The approaches used in these books are based on the latest research about how students learn, so that preparation can be an effective and efficient use of time. These materials are also written to be developmentally appropriate for the ages of the students taking the tests.
Christa is a graduate of Middlebury College and received her Masters in Education from the University of Virginia, a program nationally recognized for its excellence. She resides in Arlington, VA with her husband and three children. Christa continues to coach students one-on-one in the Washington, D.C., area as well as students all over the world via the internet.

Too easy.

My son did both of the tests without spending half of the time and his score were both perfect. I don't know whether these are too easy or not compared with the real test. We'll wait and see the real result next couple of days.
Our result just came in yesterday and the result didn't match any of the two results from this practice tests, especially the first section which we score perfect on both tests. It confirmed my impression that it's too easy and give user inaccurate information about their weakness and strength.

Helped my daughter get a good score

My daughter was applying for private school and had never taken a "normal" standardized test like this. I found the book to be really helpful in learning what types of questions would be on the exam and especially on pacing. We figured out a few good strategies such as paying attention to the time and guessing when you were getting to the end of the time allotment. She ended up getting stanines of 7 to 9 and got into the school we applied to. On another note, before we got this test, she took a COGAT test and hadn't practiced timing for that test so she ended up not completing a lot of that test and got a much weaker score. For instance, her weakest score on the COGAT was quantitative reasoning but she ended up getting a 9 stanine on the ISEE. So I definitely think buying this helped with test taking strategies.

It's a start but too easy to rely on exclusively

It's a good start but the material was much easier than the actual test. This is per my 10 yo of course but he did score a stanine of 9 on all these practice tests and also on the tests that came in the full prep book by Abbott but then scored much lower. I don't think it was just a bad testing day because he remembered exactly what areas were different. For example, Hhe said the the comprehension reading had much longer paragraphs (many more numbered lines) and that the math went into subjects (more advanced Geometry) not covered in the books/practice tests.
