Composite Materials Handbook #3 continues this practical, hands-on series on composites with helpful how-to projects that cover a variety of topics geared toward assisting home-builders in completing their composite projects. Handbook #3 starts off where Handbook #2 ended, expanding on mold-making techniques including special methods for creating molds and composite copies of existing parts, fabricating molds from clay models, and making advanced mold systems using computer modeling software. Several alternative methods of fabricating one-off parts are presented in this book, including molding over frameworks and human forms, as well as using stock composites to build simple structures.
Hands-on projects include an automotive body panel, (formed by using an existing panel to make the mold), a camper shell, and a hollow-body guitar. Composite repairs are also covered in this book, along with a primer on computer-aided analysis of composites structures and an inside look at how professional fabricators build high tech composite parts for aerospace, racing, and the sports industries.
Composite Materials Handbook #3 demonstrates advanced mold making techniques, including the use of routers and CNC machines in the making of molds. The use of silicone-compression molds, to form complex shapes, is also included. This is the book for anyone who's ready to advance beyond the methods and projects presented in the first two volumes. Take your skills to the next level with Composite Materials Handbook #3.

From the Inside Flap
In books one through three, Author and Professor John Wanberg, took pains to explain the why and how of building with composite materials. Each page was allocated nearly fifty-fifty between photos and text.
In this new book of step-by-step projects, John takes a different approach. Instead of explaining the theory and what each component is made of, John cuts to the chase. Nearly every page is allocated to photos.
The pictures lead the reader through a detailed how-to sequence. From making the mold, to cutting the fabric, and finishing the part, all the information is here. Projects include everything from fabricating speaker enclosures to hood scoops and cell-phone cases. Some require only simple molds, while others rely on more sophisticated vacuum bagging methods.
Each chapter starts with copy, just enough to explain the project and the goals. Next comes the material panel, a list of all the tools and materials needed to duplicate the project seen in that particular chapter. Finally, the vast majority of each chapter is given over to the how-to photos. Photos that show, literally, each step along the way, from the initial sketch to the finished part.
About the Author

Functional How to Books. Worth the money if you NEED to know this information. Quite expensive for general bedtime reading though. There are no villains, hero's, or scary monsters in the book save for the fact that your blood pressure will rise a bit when slathering on catalyzed fiberglass resin knowing that you have a REAL deadline before the stuff starts to seize up.

very handy resource

Have the full series. In this book john goes into some of the techniques not found on youtube. He covers things like making a trunk lid out of carbon (the kind of projects that spring to mind when you think about carbon fiber) he also covers mold repair and CAD design of composite parts. If you are a familiar with the basics, then this will be a good starring point to move to advanced status.
