Artie Bucco, the character (played by John Ventimiglia) who is the chef at the show's Vesuvio restaurant, sets the tone of this book of insider "family" secrets by explaining his family's move from Campania, Italy, to New Jersey, then turns to various Soprano characters. (A brief chapter on Neapolitan cooking is explained by the Newark Public Library's Natalie del Greco, who offers recipes for a simple Marinara Sauce as well as a Sunday Gravy.) Delicious and easy!

I got this as a gift for my dad, who's a fantastic cook and a huge Sopranos fan. He loves all the recipes and the little notes from characters that the author stuck in between the recipes. The recipes have a pretty wide range of skill-level needed, but everyone over age 16 should be able to make most of the recipes in this book. Your skill level will make the dish better or worse than normal, but everyone should be able to at least get a decent meal out of it. The book is very large and the print is big, so my older father can read it with ease (he normally has reading glasses).

As an added bonus, my dad now makes amazing Italian meals from this book for our dinner when I come home:)

Awesome book and awesome recipes! As head of the notorious Ossobuco crime family, I expect fine examples of "cucina nostra" on my table, and great entertainment in the literature I peruse. This book delivers on both! My compliments to Signore Buco and the Sopranos clan and crew. Now, where's my cannoli and espresso? (I already took the gun - as I always say, never leave a good one behind!)

Just like Nona's kitchen

As I read through the recipes, I could hear the sound of my Nona's voice. The pronunciation of the words, the way I say them, to this day, made me giggle to myself. The recipes are damn close, some spot on to hers. Every Italian family has their own tweaks, but if you weren't lucky enough to have an Italian grandmother, this is a good substitute. Good hearty meals, and they call it Gravy! YES!!! Be prepared to by some yoga pants, but these delicious recipes are worth the extra time on the treadmill.

Not my usual fare, but so glad I took the risk

I admit, I don't read a lot of YA. Why not? Well, because so many times the teenage characters have so much angst that I just can't get through it. That said, the description of The Casquette Girls really spoke to me and I decided to take a chance.

Wow. I am so glad I did.

The Casquette Girls is technically a YA Paranormal Romance. The main characters are all sixteen to eighteen years old. If you're looking for a book suitable for teens, this is a good candidate. There's no sex, no swearing, and only limited violence. That said, there's a whole lot else going for it that will keep you engaged even if you're well north of thirty.

I wish I could summarize the story for you. I want to. But there's just so much to it that any description I could possibly make would pale in comparison to what the book was - near perfection.

First of all, the book takes place in New Orleans right after Katrina. The author does a fantastic job of capturing the horrors of post-storm life while not delving deeply into some of the political aspects of the issues that happened in Louisiana. You'll feel for the characters who had to return to storm ravaged life and you'll learn how the city's undefeatable spirit kept it going when it seemed like all was lost.

Next, the vampire narrative is incredibly well done. The story bounces back and forth between Adele's ancestor, Adeline's diary and present day and it does so nearly seamlessly. All too often, these flashbacks can be too drawn out and slow, but in The Casquette Girls, they are incredibly important and very well done. Just as you're wondering why we need to read all this history, the author shows you exactly why you're reading.

There were parts of the climax that took me completely by surprise and that is rare. The author left me wanting more, but not a lot more. I don't want another book (well, unless there's another threat to neutralize), but I'd love to read an epilogue or check in with these characters five years in the future to see what happened after all of the...drama.

Superbly written and edited, this is a book that will hold your interest from the first page to the last. Each character is important. Each is well defined and well crafted. The ending is thrilling and nearly perfect. This is definitely one of the top books I've read in 2014.

Contrary to the typical YA {teen} paranormal romance Alys Arden's novel is an epic tale of survival, hardship and relationships that gets `under your skin' never to be removed. In addition to the wonderfully rich and beautifully detailed narrative, is the most extraordinary world building of such inspired vision and imaginative flair. I was literally mesmerized by the scope of the in-depth, multi-layered world which the author had created; a simply sublime setting for the story to take place in. The Casquette Girls is indeed a page-turner that is full of profoundly moving connotation and heartbreaking, emotive passages that touch it's reader. Set in the vibrant New Orleans that is steeped in history, A Arden's past story unfolds within a fantastic paranormal-infused 18th Century that perfectly compliments the future events. Engulfed in history, exquisite details and poignancy this exceptional book is highly recommended!

The Casquette Girls is a young adult, paranormal romance containing a mix of historical details within the contemporary tale. Told from the POV of teenager Adele this novel will take you on a roller coaster riveting ride, upon exploring a changed world after a cataclysmic storm that left New Orleans in the wake of mass devastation. The sinister, eerie backdrop and chilling environment makes you empathize with the main protagonist all the more as she struggles to survive in such a harsh world full of new dangers. Wrought with tension and seeped in suspense this powerfully evocative, post-apocalyptic story highlights the strength of family and friendship bonds and how love holds such sway.

This YA novel will appeal to the younger reader, fans of Divergent and other similar stories that all contain thought-provoking depth and such heart. I was enthralled by this remarkable read wherein I lost myself utterly and completely in a world of monsters, myth and magic. Alys Arden's vivid imagination and mind-blowing creative vision is something to really admire, hence I feel strongly that this is a book that will be met with great acclaim and excitement!

Just like the city of New Orleans - this book will capture your heart and never let go

Writing a review for this novel has proved to be a difficult task, for the sole reason that I cannot put into words how much I adore it.

Adele's story is filled with a certain magic I rarely find these days. Her voice and worries are true to those of a sixteen year old girl and I love seeing New Orleans through the eyes of a character who holds so much love for her home city. Myths and folklore have been blended together with a poetic beauty that leaves the reader riveted - as if they are a tourist hooked on Ren's every word.

Having been to New Orleans myself, recently, the story felt so much more special to me. I couldn't help but smile at the places described, and reading of Adele's New Orleans, I felt her pain at seeing the damaged city - a city whose spell I have fallen under.

The story of Adeline and the Casquette Girls was a wonderful back story and leaves this world open to many future possibilities. The secrets, friendships and monsters in the dark were told in such an amazing way, it left me feeling like I had experienced their hardships with them and was a part of their sisterhood.

Though there were many villainous characters in this book, there wasn't a single one I didn't love in some way. Each had their own unique flair and even at the end, my heart was wrenching for even the darkest of villains and I am still torn between what I sure will be an age old question - Isaac or Nicco?

The city of New Orleans has a strange power - it has the ability to make you fall in love with it form the moment you step onto those cobbled stone streets in the French Quarter, the sound of Jazz music drifting through your ears. The Casquette Girls holds that same power - you will fall in love with this story from the first page and find yourself wishing you never had to leave the lives of Adele, her friends and the young women known as The Casquette Girls.

When her mother was pregnant with Berkson...the obstetrician administered diethylstilbestrol (DES) to prevent miscarriage. Although some negative information about DES was known at that time, most doctors felt it was as safe as smoking. Berkson draws women's and doctors' attention to all the questions about hormones and other chemicals that remain unanswered or whose answers aren't widely known or heeded. Her main thesis is that chemicals from inside the body are safe whereas those from outside can be questionable or sometimes dangerous and even deceptive, causing the body to respond to them as if they were hormones. Berkson has collected a vast amount of material. She explains it clearly, discriminating suppositions from hard data. She urges further research, pointing out, however, that a major deterrent to it is the attitude that "a man-made chemical is considered innocent until proven guilty." William Beatty

This book attempts to answer these questions through a combination of a statistical analysis of social, economic, and international determinants of regime change in 165 countries around the world in 1972-2006, and case study work on nine episodes of democratization occurring in Argentina, Bolivia, Hungary, Nepal, Peru, the Philippines, South Africa, Turkey, and Uruguay. The findings suggest that democracy is promoted by long-term structural forces such as economic prosperity, but also by peaceful popular uprisings and the institutional setup of authoritarian regimes. In the short-run, however, elite actors may play a key role, particularly through the importance of intra-regime splits. Jan Teorell argues that these results have important repercussions both for current theories of democratization and for the international community's effort in developing policies for democracy promotion.

A great update - state of the discipline - handbook of democatization studies

This book provides a great up-to-date overview of democratization theories, their usefulness, limits and tests conventional accepted hypotheses with a large-N qualitative analysis. By using qualitative case studies, the author tests these theories and paves the way for further research. I definitely recommand this book for everybody working in the field of comparative politics and democraitzation.

Another great read from the always amazing Dianna Love

When I received this book to review I couldn’t wait to jump back in to the Dianna built for another adventure. To say I wasn't disappointed would be an understatement. I love Tristan's book and finding out more about him and why he is the only one with certain powers. The way the whole story played out just leaves you wanting more and more. My heart broke for Tristan when he was left to think his love betrayed him. If you are a fan of this series or any paranormal books you would love this book and the world that is before you. The writing like with all of Dianna's books is spectacular. She pulls you in and you don't even want to escape.

A truly fun read!

Now this was truly wonderful! It had a different feel then the other Belador series and I think that's because it was highly focused on one character and not switching between other characters. I always loved Tristan and felt sorry for him. I worry that he may do something that will get him into deep trouble. What's so interesting about this story is how we can clearly see how Tristan has changed from when we first met him in book 1. We get to see what makes Tristan so much of a Grinch on the holidays and what type of woman can catch the Alterants eye. I loved every bit of this book. Truly enjoyable. And I loved a certain moment where Tristan did battle with the main antagonist of the story. Let's just say...Tristan knows how to make pancakes. 5/5 for sure! Please keep up the good work! I can't wait for the next installment, Rouge Belador!

Tristan has always been given the short end of the stick. At every turn, he finds himself in bad situations. This story shows the reason why he doesn't trust anyone, especially females. After over a week with one particular female, he is found by the Beladors and thrust into the South American jungle in a cage all by himself for years. Now that he's somewhat free, he is on the hunt for the girl who betrayed him. However, he comes across her in a way he never would have suspected! Can Tristan survive his encounter with the beautiful Mac?
