Onofrio Panzarino is a programmer with 15 years experience working with various languages (mostly with Java), platforms, and technologies. Before obtaining his Master of Science degree in Electronics Engineering, he worked as a digital signal processor programmer. Around the same time, he started working as a C++ developer for embedded systems and PCs. Currently, he is working with Android, ASP.NET or C#, and JavaScript for Wolters Kluwer Italia. During these years, he gained a lot of experience with graph databases, particularly with Neo4j. Onofrio resides in Ancona, Italy. His Twitter handle is (@onof80). Jump start your neo4j graph database project

I've been playing with Neo4j off and on for more than a year, and I knew that Cypher was maturing as a query language.

I agree with the other reviewer who said there's a bunch of java stuff at the beginning, which may be useful. I don't know because I'm still learning java.

But I was surprised to find that since Cypher is so intuitive, that if you just jump into Chapter 1, around page 20, if you're familiar with graphs and databases, it should be pretty obvious what is going on from the syntax alone.

Having said that, I found the comparisons with SQL really helpful. I was surprised to note how many of the things in this book were already familiar to me, and how many new features have been added to Cypher.

I hope it will continue growing as a language, since there are still a lot of graph applications that require outside wrappers (I use py2neo), and not all of those wrappers are fully developed, yet. So java is the fallback for anything sophisticated you might want to do.

This book is really for those who are newer to Neo4j and want to get up and running quickly with a good overview of what it can do out of the box, which is quite a lot.

Learning Cypher is a good read. I feel it will help a person jumpstart into the Neo4j world. It is particularly recommended if one
has a requirement to interact with Neo4j through a java based code. The examples are detailed and will definitely accelerate
the process of creating code to work with Neo4j.
Since the code is based on Java using the Maven environment a prior knowledge of this is an important pre-requisite to get the sample code up and running.

The chapter on profiling will help more advanced users in tuning their Neo4j applications. The chapter on Migrating from SQL will help in case there is an existing SQL store and there is a need to migrate to a graph database.

The book is specially good for folks new to the Neo4j world & who want to get quickly up and running.

Great book, essential!

The authors have done an outstanding job of extracting the essence of Cypher and describing a core set of features of the tool features as well as how to take advantage from them.
He describes very clearly his capability, constructs and above all how to manage with the relationships among nodes, their creation, modification and deleting.
This text has served as a helpful guide among other more recently online docs and tutorials.
Yes, I would recommend it.

Mark Sonnenschein is a Fellow in the Material Sciences Division at the Dow Chemical Company. He holds 36 US and international patents and is the author of over 50 refereed journal articles and the chapter “Polyurethanes” in Wiley’s Encyclopedia of Polymer Science and Technology.

Includes fundamental discussions of polyurethane synthesis, characterization, and structure-property relationships, as well as manufacturing and marketing information for diverse classes of polyurethane products (flexible and rigid foams, elastomers, adhesives, coatings, and medical applications). Great overview of PU, informative, well written

Great overview of almost all aspects of PU. I have years of experience on PU materials and thought I knew about the whole picture of this field. But after reading half the book, I already found lots of helpful information. I would recommend this book to anyone who works with PU, from students who want to learn more besides from textbooks to experienced researchers who need to stay up-to-date.

A must have!!!

Woah! This book is THICK and I was so shocked! It is packed full of knowledge, commentary, notes- everything! It's beautifully bound. My copy was shrink wrapped in plastic and inside of a cardboard box when I received it. It's exactly the same book that is displayed on Amazon. Very thick, very beautiful. Exactly what I wast looking for!

Invaluable, scholarly, critical, and revealing text. Ali's translation of the Qur'an is an important work for anyone whose desire is to gain an understanding of Islam. Ali's work is profound; exhaustive and illuminating, but it is not heavy or verbose, rather it is an absolute joy to read. His research draws not only from a well of his personal expereience as a Muslim, but also from extensive research. Citing Jewsih, as well as Christian, religious texts, Ali's work steadfastly and critically serves to clarify the true messages related by the Qur'an. His notes offer sound and approachable ideas to concepts of Islam including, but not limtied to: prayer, patience, behavior, and faith. What It Means to be Gothic

In the book, "Goth Craft: The Magickal Side of Dark Culture," Raven Digitalis, a male self-professed witch (they don't seem to use the word warlock), tells you all about the Gothic subculture that has arisen in Europe and the United States since the late 1960s. The book starts with the historical Goths in Europe and works its way to the present, using a well-written, intellectual style that is quite readable. You learn that Goths are not drug-addled fiends or vampires trying to do others ill will or simply partying until they drop. As Digitalis tells it, Goths are spiritual beings interested in enlightenment and fulfillment, using an eclectic array of esoteric and occult interests, including Buddhist meditation, paganism, shamanism and Wicca. You name it, Goths seem to be interested in it! Digitalis goes into some detail regarding witchcraft, or the Craft as he calls it, though there's very little detail about how spells or potions are produced and used - only for positive purposes, of course. This book seems to be a very good overview of Goths, the people, and their current subculture.

A wonderful first publication from a promising new author

This is one of those books that had the potential to be either really good, or abysmal. Fortunately, Raven managed to stick to the former, avoiding a trainwreck of trendiness and black-dyed fluff.

If you're unfamiliar with the Goth subculture beyond a few outward trappings, this book will give you a solid introduction to the whys, hows, and manifestations of what it is to be Goth. However, like the introductory material on witchcraft that he presents, Raven manages to avoid dogma and snarkiness. This will make Goth Craft a particularly good guide for teens and early twenty-somethings who are just getting into both the Goth subculture and witchcraft, though people who are more established in one community or the other shouldn't turn away, either.

What I really liked about this book was the fact that it doesn't shy away from potentially controversial material. The ritual use of drugs, sex (vanilla and otherwise) and gender issues are some of the topics that are covered in a respectful, intelligent manner. Raven also includes a good collection of rituals and spells aimed at the appreciation of the darker end of the spectrum of life, and provides some refreshing ideas to work with. He also shows the magic in "everyday" elements of Gothic culture, including conscious application of makeup and clothing, and the use of dance for reaching altered states of consciousness.

I would consider Goth Craft to be primarily 101 level material, but it's on the higher end of 101-there are explanations of common pagan symbols and correspondences filtered through a Gothic worldview, but there's also a good collection of further resources. And I learned quite a bit about the Gothic subculture that I hadn't known before. So while the target audience seems to be younger folks in the Goth community who are interested in witchcraft, I suggest giving this book a chance if you're interested in a darker approach to magic that is well beyond the ooga-booga spookiness and sensationalism that some prior texts have fallen prey to.

Raven Digitalis: the smeared mascara on the face of Dark Paganism

Where is the dark spirituality in this book other than
trying to make your self look like a uber-goth? I
couldn't find it. (However one star for a nice layout)
Dark spirituality is more than just
the trapping of the "costume" you choose to wear. It
IS who you are. If you are looking to find real
information and guidance look somewhere else , this
book is nothing more than Wiccan basics with splash of
Hot topic thrown in for good measure. And it's a real
shame ,quality books on dark paganism aren't easy to come by
and that's why I figured I give it read. I did do a
bit more research on Mr. Raven Digitalis and it seems
as though his brand ( and yes I do mean commercial
paganism ) is stacked with contradictions. Dark
energies are not commonly associated with light and
love , they are the polar opposite. While much
happiness and fulfillment can be found in Dark
Paganism, it takes more than just eyeliner and a
love for spookiness.

If the dark path is right for you the information will
come- from somewhere else.

About the Author
Matthew Lautzenheiser is a native of Dover, Ohio, and a 1995 graduate of Dover High School. His love of football began at the age of ten when he joined the Dover Pee Wee Football League. He would continue to play football for the next eleven years. While playing on Dover's varsity team in 1992, 1993 and 1994, he took part in three Dover-Phila rivalry games. As a sophomore in 1992, he was fortunate enough to play in one of the best Dover-Phila games in recent memory. Lautzenheiser attended Hiram College, where he continued his football career, lettering twice. In 1999, he graduated with a bachelor's degree in history from Hiram, and in 2002, he was awarded a master's degree, also in history, from the University of Akron. For the past ten years, he has worked in public history, first with the Western Reserve Historical Society as a historian and later as the director of the Dover Historical Society and J.E. Reeves Home. Lautzenheiser's return to Tuscarawas County has been rewarding both personally and professionally. Lautzenheiser currently lives in Louisville, Ohio, with his wife, Kelly, and sons, Douglas and Benjamin. This is his second book.

Great historical book on a local football rivalry. The pictures thru out the book were really great. Bought this for Christmas for my son-in-law who is a die-hard Phila fan. I graduated from Dover...so, it makes for interesting times during the yearly Dover-Phila football game.

About the Author
Martin L. Leibowitz is Managing Director in the U.S. Research Department at Morgan Stanley. Prior to working at Morgan Stanley, he was vice chairman and chief investment officer of TIAA-CREF. Leibowitz is a leading authority in the fields of security analysis and portfolio allocation. He is the author of four books, including Franchise Value, and 138 articles, eight of which have won the prestigious Graham and Dodd Award for excellence in financial writing.

Anthony Bova is a Vice President in the Morgan Stanley Research Department, focusing on institutional portfolio strategy. He recently won the ninth annual Bernstein Fabozzi/Jacobs Levy Award for coauthoring the article "Gathering Implicit Alphas in a Beta World," which ran in the Spring 2007 issue of the Journal of Portfolio Management.

P. Brett Hammond is a Managing Director and Chief Investment Strategist for TIAA-CREF Asset Management. The Endowment Model of Investing by Martin L.
Leibowitz, Anthony Bova and P. Brett Hammond is an
important work in finance. The main theme of the
book is that the U.S. equities of stocks or bonds
are the primary risk factors in most institutional portfolios.

The U.S. institutional funds share common
characteristics. For instance, the total portfolio volatility may be with the equities in stocks or
bonds. In addition, the total projected volatilities
are about 10% under normal market conditions. Despite
the uncertainties,diversification remains one of the
most powerful tools to reduce risk and enhance returns
in the arsenal of tools available
to the investor.

The authors explain how college and university
endowment funds have increased their investment allocations from 3% to over 25% or more in
non-traditional assets like real estate, hedge funds, private equity, natural resources and venture capital.
At the same time, asset allocations decreased in such areas as fixed income,cash or cash equivalents. And so, U.S. equities continue to be the dominant risk factor for most institutional portfolios as demonstrated by the 2008 market crash.

The book explains that volatility in the markets
is not dispositive. The more worrisome prospect
is market deterioration so severe that it undermines
an institution's investment philosophy and forces
a fundamental reconsideration of basic assumptions underlying the investment portfolios. Vulnerable
assets include international equity investments and emerging market equity during short term periods of
stress in the markets which may translate to downside
risk.

The authors have utilized the term dragon risk to
denote unchartered territories where dragons might
dwell. Examples are the potential perils of new
investment vehicles like exotic derivatives and the
wider range of performance outcomes for less efficient assets which depend more on having a top manager for
the investment.

Worth looking at but I would argue it struggled to keep my interest throughout. Adding summaries might have helped.

Technical folks would perhaps enjoy it. Mathematicians etc.
