Unpleasant

They had this book at the Art of Coraline Exhibit in SF. After viewing the astoundingly beautiful artwork in the show I was excited to crack this book open in hopes of finding even more gorgeous concept art, etc. from the film only to find barely any of it in the tome. Why would we want a book full of pictures from the film (which are poorly printed) when we can view them in all their glory (and animated) on the screen? We want a true Art of Coraline book (the publishers need to go look at some of Insight Editions books for "Open Season", "Kung Fu Panda" and "Madagascar" to find out what their book should have been). Don't waste your money on this book. If you want to read about how the film came about I suggest buying a cup of coffee in the bookstore and read it while you sip. Then you'll only have had to spend $2-3 to get the info.

disappointing

It looks like the film will be completely amazing but the visual companion was pretty disappointing. The images are low resolution (72 dpi some of them). And the book only really features the artwork of one of the artists involved. There was an amazingly talented team working on this film and I would have liked to have a selection of artwork from all of them....and I would have liked to have seen that selection at a decent resolution, not pixelated screen grabs. Avoid this book....perhaps they'll re-release it down the track with better quality images (and a better representeation of the talent that was involved).

A huge disappointment...

This book looks like something your grandmother might print with her ten-year-old ink-jet printer. The photographs are dark, muddy, pixelized, and full of JPEG artifacts. William Morrow should be ashamed of themselves for publishing this. The talented artists who worked on this movie deserve much better, as do Neil Gaiman's dedicated fans.

Making my own cheese is something I have been wanting to do for a long time. I am really glad I found this book.This book has all the information I need to do it now. It has recipes to make Farmer's cheese, Cheddar, Gouda, Mozzarella and Ricotta. The recipes are well written and the instructions are clear and easy to understand. Now, I just need to get my supplies and ingredients and give this a go.

The transitions of modern medical practice in the Himalaya and Tibetan China

This excellent, accessible, yet scholarly book is comprised primarily of a series of abbreviated biographies that chronicle the unique and unusual difficullties affecting the practice of traditional medicine in Tibet proper, the Tibetan Autonomous Kingdoms in Nepal, and the Tibetan diaspora. Given the size of China' population, one is struck by the amazingly nuanced an layered approach to a health care system that in ways provides more compassionate access to healing arts than modern Europe and the Americas does to it's citizens. The book also provides a very vivid and well written portrait of the slight of hand, good introns, and obstacles the Chinese equivalent of the Federal DEA puts before the struggling Tibetans as they attempt to adapt to the 'new China-old China' of chronic invasive over-management of traditional arts. And methods of healing as they are pit through the strange mirages of due diligence, Cinese-style. The portrait of Tibetan challenges from China's system of Tibetan reduction and domination is illuminating, balanced, and In a subtle and non-judgmental way sets out clearly one of the challenges to cultural survival with which time tans must deal in the New China. As well written but of more scholarly orientation than her last book, Horses Like Lightening, this effort is essential to a better understanding of the modern Tibet within China than more romanticized versions of portraits of modernization in Tibet.

Overall an easy to navigate and complete review for the VTNE

I used this book one month prior to sitting for my VTNE. It was helpful, but if you don't known your basic knowledge, this is not the book to review with. I think this is best used as a supplement if you already work in practice, or in addition to your class notes. I liked having a physical paper, that I could take with me on slow nights at the ER.

Pros:
-bullet point format, no lengthy reading required.
-lots of helpful charts/graphs/pictures, which breaks up the monotony of reading sometimes.
-updated information, especially in the section of critical/emergency care and diagnostics (blood/ua/cytology)
- code for use of online tests and practice
-has easy to identity sections to help you find which area you are looking to study
-quizzes at the end of each chapter, which I found the MOST helpful part of the entire book

Cons:
-the avian/exotic animal section (pets, not lab animal) has a lot of outdated or incorrect information, which can show up frequently on the VTNE
- there is not justification of the hundreds of answers to the practice test questions. In some cases I doubted the answer, or didn't know where to find the information to review in the giant chapter, so I didn't know why I missed the question
- the practice website leaves A LOT to be desired. The questions do not change, if you take a practice VTNE, it will be the exact same the next time, except the questions will be in a different order. Only useful for a couple review sessions. I wish it had the entire bank of questions from the book.

Overall, I found the book helpful in preparing for my VTNE, which I passed on my first try. Having used the Colville review prior, I preferred this review book over the Colville hands down.

Errors in Answer Key, Don't Waste Your Time or Money

I bought this book along with a subscription to VetTechPrep.com. I read a few chapters of this book and completed each chapter review at the end of the book. Unfortunately, I found numerous wrong answers. As far as I can tell, the information in the chapters is correct, it's just the answer key for the review questions has errors. After finding a few errors, I decided to stop reading (I stopped at chapter 12, there are 29 chapters total). I focused all of my studying on reading my school notes and completing VetTechPrep.com. I completely believe I passed because of that website. If you are a vet tech student preparing for boards, I wouldn't bother wasting time or money on any book. The VetTechPrep.com review was very in depth and gives you explanations for each question you answer. Plus, it helps to use an on computer review system since the boards are on a computer too.

Outdated, but good

In response to the previous review, they call it the "Uroplatus Bible" for two reasons: 1) It's the only book that specifically deals with Uroplatus, and 2) any book written about a particular genus always gets labeled the "Genus Bible".

Anyway, so it's been quite some time since the book was published, and new species have been described, and more forms absent from the book have yet to be described.

The book is a good resource for general info on the different species of Uroplatus, yet the translators/editors to English missed out on quite a few errors in the text.

Overall a good book, at least until something more up-to-date is published.

Suzanne R. Kunkel, PhD is the director of Scripps Gerontology Center and Professor in the Department of Sociology and Gerontology at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Dr. Kunkel has 20 years of experience in research and teaching in gerontology and is the recipient of the 2006 Outstanding Gerontology Educator Award.||James Scott Brown, PhD, Assistant Professor, Department of Sociology and Gerontology, and a Fellow of Scripps Gerontology Center, Miami University, OH. He is a graduate from Duke University at both Masters and Doctoral levels. I started using this book in my Global Aging on-line class at the University of Iowa, during the summer 2014. The class is composed mostly of undergraduates, some of whom are working toward a Certificate in Aging Studies (for which this class is a requirement). The chapters define and explain key concepts and conclude with discussion questions and a vocab summary. The book has been well accepted by my students. They also appreciate that it is available in paperback format.

Printable questionnaire's?

Having bought the book and just started reading it, it seems to be well written and clear, the issue that I have encountered is that there are many questionnaires in the book and obviously on the kindle edition there is no way of marking one's responses. I am not sure if there is a companion website where one could download the questionnaire portions, print them out and mark them up as this would really increase the utility of the book since this is positioned as a practical guide and the participation of the reader is crucial to understanding the concepts in 'Night School'.

If such a site or resource exists would be great to have a link to that on the purchase page or in the item description, as otherwise the usefulness of the book is diminished greatly!

The Book's a WOW!

I'm a retired psychologist so the subject of sleeping and dreaming has been of interest to me throughout both my career and my personal life. This book is the best organized and written one on the subject I've ever come across. The author has taken a great deal of in-depth research that could have been dry and overwhelming, but he has organized it and presented clearly and easy to read and understand. As is his style, tucked in here and there are delightful touches of humor that add to the pleasure of reading it. In addition, this book is one that a person having difficulty with sleep could benefit from as it includes steps a reader can take to improve sleep, concentration and learning. I think Professor Wiseman is a unique contributor to our understanding of human existence. This book on sleep fits right in with his other winners such as Quirkology, 59 Seconds and The Luck Factor all of which are available on Amazon.

I came across this book by accident, on youtube.
But I am happy I did!

I love any neuroscience type book and you can't more into brains than sleep.

But it is an easy read and full of information.
I appreciate it because I work graveyards and need every bit of info.

About the Author
Lucio Sarno is a Professor of Finance, Deputy Dean and Head of the Finance Faculty at Cass Business School, City University, London. His main research interests are in international finance, and he is a leading expert on exchange rates, a subject on which he writes prolifically and on which he is routinely called for advice by governments, international organizations and financial companies around the world.

Mark P. Taylor is Professor of Economics at the University of Warwick. He obtained his first degree in philosophy, politics and economics from Oxford University. He then worked as a foreign exchange dealer in London for two years while simultaneously studying part-time for a master's degree in economics at London University, from where he also holds a doctorate in economics. Professor Taylor has taught economics at various universities (including Warwick, Oxford, Marseille and New York), at various levels (from principles courses to advanced graduate and MBA courses) and in various fields (including macroeconomics, microeconomics and econometrics). He also worked for several years as a senior economist at the International Monetary Fund and before that at the Bank of England. His work has been extensively published in scholarly journals, such as the Journal of Political Economy and the Economic Journal, and he is today one of the most highly cited economists in the world in economic research. In addition, Professor Taylor has acted as an advisor to the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, the Bank of England, the European Commission and to senior members of the UK government. He is a research fellow of the Centre for Economic Policy Research, a member of council of the Royal Economic Society, and a fellow of both the Royal Statistical Society and the Royal Society of Arts. Professor Taylor lives (with his wife and three children and his three dogs named Byron, Shelley and Aphra) near Kenilworth, Warwickshire (where he collects clocks and keeps bees).

A great book for experts

An excellent book for experts on foreign exchange, covering most of the major theories in detail. Often said to be at PHD level, which is true, but the difficult mathamatics is avoided as much as possible so is accesable to all those with a good knowledge of exchange rate theory.

This is a well-written and comprehensive survey of the modern international finance literature. I recommend this book to PH.D students who looking for a dissertation topic. Researchers should also have a copy of this book for reference.
